Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

Chiltern Training Group aims to establish an inclusive culture and environment for trainees, in which equality and diversity are championed. CTG leads, in conjunction with the external examiner, regularly audit the course offer to ensure that trainees with SEND and / or wellbeing barriers receive the support they need to be successful.

CTG leads are working with Being Luminary, The Chartered College of Teaching and Chiltern Learning Trust on their Mission 44-funded project ‘Increasing Diversity in ITT’. This project aims to identify barriers in Initial Teacher Training and ways to overcome these, as we are recognised system leaders in this area. For more information on the project, please visit chartered.college/diversity-itt-project

We aim to:

  • Create a culture in which trainees feel welcomed and valued
  • Create an inclusive environment where trainees feel able to share their needs and/or ask for help
  • Train leaders at all levels to identify trainees’ needs and barriers rapidly
  • Prioritise effective support for all trainees so they are fully prepared to embark on a career in teaching. This includes those with identified special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who may face other barriers to their learning and/or wellbeing
  • Ensure that trainees receive appropriate support while completing their teaching practice in the workplace

We encourage candidates to speak to us about any adjustments that may be required through the process. We will work with you to create an adjustment plan which we will refer to and review throughout the process.
